- [Narrator] It was mentioned before that there is no single standard published for creating a VPN. In my opinion that's not only okay it's actually a good thing. The different protocols that have evolved all have their strengths and their separate applications. So with that in mind let's take a look at the different protocols that are available for creating a VPN in the remote access role of Windows Server 2016. The first is Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol or PPTP. It's often seen as the original VPN protocol. It didn't technically originate from Microsoft but they founded the consortium that created it. And because it's been around for so long everything seems to support it. And it's usually pretty easy to set up. PPTP was designed in the days when access to a private network was often done over dial up connections. It was created with only the overhead needed to make it difficult to intercept over phone lines. The lighter overhead makes it easy to process and fast to transmit…
