In this video, Robert McMillen talks about how to upgrade a cluster to 2012 R2 from 2008. This procedure will allow you to be on the latest version of Windows and keep the cluster running. There are many steps including creating a new cluster from a node in the old cluster, copying cluster roles, performing post migration tasks, and verifying the migration to the new cluster is working properly.
- [Voiceover] As we migrate from Windows server 2008…to 2012 R2,…we'll also need to Upgrade our Cluster,…to keep pace with the new Operating System.…There's five steps included when you want to Upgrade…from 2008 to 2012 R2.…First thing you need to do…is to create a new Cluster…from a node in the old Cluster.…So you're going to evict a node…from the old Cluster.…And then upgrade that server to windows server 2012 R2.…
Eviction is an option when you right click…on one of the servers.…After that the node will disappear,…from the cluster.…And you can feel free to upgrade…that server to 2012 R2.…Install all the rolls and features you may need…and any needed software,…prepare storage for the new cluster,…and then create the window server 2012 R2…failover cluster.…The next step is to…Copy the cluster roles to the new cluster.…So there's an option…called the Copy Cluster Roles Wizard,…to copy the cluster roles…and features from the old cluster,…and then paste them into the new cluster.…
After that you'll need to perform…postmigration tasks.…
