Top-of-rack switches

- [Instructor] One of the concepts we need to learn in order to pass the Microsoft Certification Tests is the concept of Top of Rack Switching. What is Top of Rack Switching? Well, it's when servers connect to switches in the same rack itself. All servers that are in a particular rack only connect to a main switch at the top of the rack. It doesn't necessarily mean that the switch has to be at the very top of the rack. It could be anywhere in the rack itself. This is, again, more of a concept. Once all of those ethernet connections connect to the switch at the top of the rack, then, the switch at the top will then connect to other core switches using fiber. Switches are connected to others using fiber but just at the top of the rack. This has lots of advantages. It's a much cleaner type of management. Copper stays in the rack. No large copper cabling infrastructure required. You're going to have lower cabling costs, less infrastructure to manage. It's modular and flexible, and it's…
