In this video, Robert McMillen talks about how to set up a failover file sharing role on a 2012 R2 cluster, to use the high availability features in Server 2012 and have a file server available even if a server goes down for maintenance or repair. Having a failover cluster means your file shares will be highly available during scheduled or unplanned outages, keeping your users from being disconnected and keepina a file server available during maintenance or repair.
- [Voiceover] One of the most popular…high availability roles in Server 2012 R2 clustering…is the file sharing role.…This allows you to use high availability features…in Server 2012…to have a file server available…even if a server or node goes down…for maintenance or repair.…In a previous video, we covered…installing a failover cluster,…and also adding the file server resource manager roles.…After those are installed on both of your nodes or hosts,…then we can go ahead and add the file server…failover clustering role.…
Let's start by going to Roles…in our Failover Cluster Manager,…right click, and choose Configure Role.…Next, and now we'll choose the File Server role.…We'll choose Next,…and we're gonna choose File Server for general use.…The other option is used for databases and virtual machines.…Let's choose Next.…We're gonna type the name that the clients will use…when accessing the clustered role.…Let's go ahead and put in "SharedData",…and choose Next.…
Now we'll choose our available storage…that we set up in a previous video,…
