SMB Direct

- SMB Direct is an extension of the Server Message Block technology by Microsoft. The direct part implies the use of various high-speed RDMA methods to transfer large amounts of data with little CPU intervention. In order to work properly, SMB Multichannel and RDMA must both be installed and running. Let's demonstrate the difference in speed when we copy a file with this enabled and with it disabled. Run a physical host and we're going to copy a file, as you see here it's about 5GB and it's a large ISO file. Let's first turn this feature off and run the copy and then we'll turn it back on again. In PowerShell we just simply need to run the false command with the Set-smbserverconfiguration. We make sure that we want to do this, and yes we do. We'll say yes to all. And now it's done. If we choose the Get-smbserverconfiguration we should be able to see that MultiChannel is now turned to false. And in about two thirds down the way in the list, we see that it is set to false. This…
