- [Instructor] Let's take a look at an overview of when we pair together software-defined networking and Hyper-V. As you can see in this graphic, we're using three virtual switches on three VLANs. The virtual machines are installed on the host, but they are safely hidden behind the vm network and protected by a data center firewall that only lets in allowed traffic from clients. You can also eliminate the optional management network switch and just go with the external and vm networks for a less complicated set up. You can do all this using SDN Express, which is available for free form GitHub, which is owned by Microsoft. You can do this using four physical machines or one physical with four virtual. Another great feature is the ability to move the virtual machines from one location to another without having to change their IP address or incur downtime.
