- [Instructor] Storage Spaces Direct requires high-bandwidth and low-latency networking between servers in the Cluster, at least 10 gigabyte Ethernet networking cards are required, and remote direct memory access is recommended. Storage Spaces Direct using industry standard servers with local attached drives to create highly-available, highly-scalable software to find storage at a fraction of the cost of traditional SAN or NAS arrays. It connects multiple servers into what's called nodes in a similar way failover clustering does with local or internet-connected drives. And it makes a highly-available and scalable storage system where a node or a drive can fail and the storage keeps working. If you need more storage, just add another server. Clustering storage is for fault-tolerance but Storage Spaces Direct is for high-availability and fault-tolerance.
