In this video, Robert McMillen talks about how to perform a storage migration in Failover Cluster Manager to move a cluster role from one storage to another without bringing the role down so users can continue using the role without interruption. An example is used such as storage needing to be retired os has become unstable. A demonstration of moving storage on a live node is shown.
- [Voiceover] Storage migration is a new feature…in Windows Server 2012 R2 that allows moving…the files for a virtual machine to a new…location while the virtual machine is running.…For example, suppose your virtual machine's files…are currently on a storage area network (SAN) volume,…but that SAN storage device is being retired.…A new SAN is deployed and ready to take over.…In previous releases, you would have to…shut down the virtual machine, and then…copy the files to the new SAN.…Then either ensuring that the drive mapping…was exactly the same, or fix up the configuration…for the virtual machine for the new paths.…
In Windows Server 2012, you can…leave the virtual machine running…and let the system move the files…and perform the configuration changes…without taking the virtual machine offline.…Let's look at an example, using…our Failover Cluster Manager.…We set this up in previous videos you can see.…Take a look at the Client Virtual Machine running.…And we're going to right click on that…and we're going to choose Move…
