Overview of IPv6 addressing

- [Narrator] The current version of the internet protocol known as IPv4 really hasn't changed much at all since it was first designed back in the 1970s. And while IPv4 has proven to be stable, and easy to implement, and interoperates well, this old legacy protocol does face some serious challenges that nobody could've envisioned decades ago back when it was designed. So back in the 1990s, the IETF, the Internet Engineering Task Force, initiated the design and development of a new suite of protocols and standards, which is known as IPv6. So let me go through a few of the reasons why it's important that maybe organizations should start using IPv6. The first one is the exponential growth of the Internet, and therefore the impending exhaustion of IPv4 address space. Now the reality is is we've already exhausted it, okay?
