- [Instructor] Active Directory Domain Services allows you to create, modify, and delete user accounts, but provides you with very few tools to automate the lifecycle management of those accounts. Well, we now have a tool called the Microsoft Identity Manager or MIM which is an on-premises identity and access management solution. Now environments that don't have such a solution, IT operation staff has to manually perform tasks such as password reset, group management, and certificate management. It's also necessary for IT operation staff to configure identity linkages between separate identity stores. An example would be between Active Directory Domain Services and then other identity services out there in applications out in the cloud. Now you can use MIM to help manage things like your users, credentials, policies, access, certificates, and privileged identities. And MIM provides quite a bit of really cool functionality.
