- [Instructor] There is a lot of different terminology we need to learn, as well as acronyms. Let's take a little bit of time understanding some of those, before we get too deep into our new course. The NAT router translates traffic coming into and leaving your private network. A virtual private network gives you the online privacy and anonymity by creating a private network from a public internet connection. VPNs mask your internet protocol address so your online actions are virtually untraceable. Network Policy Server is Microsoft's implementation of RADIUS, Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service. It's the successor of Internet Authentication Service or IAS. As a RADIUS server, NPS performs authentication, authorization, and accounting for wireless, and remote access dial-up, and VPN connections.
