- [Instructor] So I want to talk to you about a concept called internetworking. Now, if you take this word internetworking and you kind of break it into two components, almost like we do with an IP address, well, we could say internet and then working which is, that's great, we always want the internet to be working, right? But in this case, we're actually not dividing it there. We're going to divide it by saying inter, which means between, and then, networking. So between networks, or being able to communicate Now, a router is a device that forwards data packets from one network to another. In order to do this, it needs to be connected to two or more networks. Now, your routers are going to be located at your gateways, or where those networks connect and they truly are a very critical device that keeps data flowing between networks, and the most important network of all, which is the internet.
