Formatting options in Windows Server 2016

- [Instructor] When bringing on new storage in Windows Server 2016, you have several options you need to make and you should understand why you are making those choices. One of the first options when you bring a disk online is whether to make this a Master Boot Record type of drive, or a GPT drive, which stands for GUID Partition Table. Now, an MBR drive is the older of the two and it can handle up to two terabytes in size, whereas GPT can handle many, many more. Microsoft says it can go up to 16 exabytes, and that is a lot of space. So, why would you choose an MBR or a GPT? Well, if you're going over two terabytes, then you have to choose the GPT option. But the MBR is still very useful for older operating systems that don't support GPT partitioning, or run in 32 bit mode. 32 bit mode will not allow you to format a GPT partition.
