EFS overview

- [Instructor] When it comes to encrypting individual data in a Windows Server environment, Microsoft has included an encryption mechanism called EFS, which stands for the Encrypting File System. Now I do want to tell you that the actual process of implementing EFS within Windows Server is not very complicated at all, and I will show you another video. But what I want to do here is show you how EFS actually works behind the scenes, how cryptography and encryption is being used to secure data. So let's just take an example here. We're going to say that there's a user on our network named John and John wants to encrypt a file so that only he can access it. But I'm going to add to this particular example and say that there's a partner in the company, Mary, who works with John, and John wants to be able to allow Mary to have access to this file as well, but nobody else.
