Create a failover cluster

- [Instructor] We're going to create a cluster in Windows server 2019 using our two host computers. In a previous video we went and added the failover clustered manager roles. So now we're just going to go up to tools and we'll choose failover cluster manager. Let's right click on the manager and choose to create a cluster. Click next, and now let's add in the names of the two servers that are going to be in our cluster. First one is going to be host one and the second one is going to be host two. Now we'll add host two and click next. If you get the prompt to run the validation test go ahead and do that. The second time you go through this you will see that that get skipped and you can go ahead and type in your cluster names. I'm going to go ahead and call this cluster just to keep it simple, we'll click next we see that there is a 15 character limit, and you don't want to put any spaces in it. Now we have the option to add all the storage to the cluster, let's go ahead and uncheck that for now, in an upcoming video we're going to go through that in more detail. We'll click next. You can see here that there's a message saying that the computer name cluster does not exist in the domain and that's exactly what we want. Now it's adding it into our domain controller. And we need to have a static IP address ready so when this is done we can go ahead and add that in and make sur that no other device has that IP address. Now we see it's creating the computer object and configuring the service. We see now that it's forming the cluster and many times you'll this message that you see here, the operation is taking longer than expected, that is a normal message, you can go ahead and ignore it unless it throws an error. And when you one of those errors, the entire operation stops, you have to fix the problem and start over again. But just the message saying it's going to take longer than expected is not a problem. And our cluster was successfully created, go ahead and click finish. And on the left hand side at the top, you'll see a new cluster is being formed. And there is our cluster. And we see three errors, let's go ahead and click on those and these errors are basically saying that the cluster network name resource cluster failed registration. And basically what that means is that it hasn't quite registered the name cluster into the DNS database yet. But it will shortly and then we can go ahead and get started. In upcoming videos, we'll take a look at networking as well as storage and add some cluster roles.
