Create a Scale-out File Server for Storage Spaces Direct

- [Instructor] In a previous video, we created a cluster and added a cluster shared volume for high availability. Now, we can create a scale-out file share that will allow us to keep our file shares running regardless if a node goes down. We'll start by right-clicking on Roles and choose Configure Role. A wizard pops up, we click Next, and we choose the File Server role, and click Next once again. We have two options here, the file server for general use and the scale-out server. If we did not create a cluster shared volume when we added our storage, we could choose the file server for general use. But since we did add the cluster shared volume, we choose the scale-out file server for application data. So what's the difference? Well, the first option does file server clustering in a different way. If for some reason we wanted to use the file server for general use, then what we would do is map a G-drive, for instance, to our storage. And it would reside on host one if it was the…
