- [Instructor] The benefit of using single root I/O virtualization or SR-IOV over more traditional network virtualization, is that in SR-IOV virtualization the VM is talking directly to the network adapter through DMA or Direct Memory Access. By avoiding the use of a physical switch, the best possible system performance is attained, providing close to bare-metal performance. If you take a look where it says here "SR-IOV Support" inside the BIOS or a UEFI utility when you first booted up your server, you want to make sure this is set to "Enabled" before you boot into Windows. Otherwise we won't be able to enable the SR-IOV support. We're in Windows Server 2019 in Hyper-V Manager. If we highlight "Fileserver1" and go to "Settings", we go into our "Network Adapter", and we don't see the option for SR-IOV. If we go into our "Virtual Switch Manager" and select our switch, we don't see the option for SR-IOV, either. The only way to turn this on and enable it through the GUI, would be to…
