Classless Interdomain Routing (CIDR)

- [Instructor] When the Internet was first being designed, it was being designed with the idea of using IP address classes, or what's also sometimes known as classful IP addressing. But we quickly realized, as the Internet took off, that there were a number of problems with using classful IP addressing and it actually led to us quickly running out of IP addresses. So we came up with a few different solutions to help us get out of this problem and one of them is the use of classless inter-domain routing. Or CIDR, which is sometimes pronounced sy-der, some people say sid-der, and I also even hear people say see-der. Whatever you call it, it's CIDR or classless inter-domain routing. So, let's talk about these problems. When we had classful IP addressing, we had our A, B and C class addresses and the difference between them with just too large. You know, you had a class A range which had almost 17 million IP addresses, you had your class B ranges that had a little over 65,000 addresses…
