- [Instructor] A functioning certificate authority is going to start generating a lot of important data which means before we start accumulating these certificates and start issuing all of this critical data, we need to have a process in place whereby we can back up and recover data as needed. There are a lot of tools that you can use to do this. One is the Server Manager which has a Tools menu which will give you access to the Certification Authority MMC Utility. From here, you can choose to simply right click on the server name and under All Tasks, select Back Up Certificate Authority. This wizard is pretty easy to follow. It asks you some basic questions like what is it that you want to back up? Do you just need to back up the certificate database and if so, do you need the whole thing or just those certificates that have changed since your last backup and do you need a backup of the private key and the certificate authority certificate?
