- [Instructor] Always-On is a VPN option that was introduced as an upgrade to Direct Access. It take the automatic connection of company workstations to the next level. One of the key advantages of Direct Access was that it allowed the computer to automatically connect to the private network and accept management controls from Active Directory. One of the weaknesses was that, like many VPNs, it granted a tunnel into the network with little to no restrictions. Once you were connected, it was just as if you had plugged in to an ethernet port in the office. Any convenience feature opens up security concerns and this is at the top of the list for Direct Access. Always-On can be configured to be resource-specific or even application-specific as it connects. Consider this example.
