Memory leak investigation: Part 1: Windows Performance Toolkit: Detecting Memory Leaks

A memory leak occurs when an program incorrectly manages memory allocations in such a way that memory which is no longer required Is never released. Basically, an application which repeatedly creates objects that need to be stored in memory such as a bitmap but when the bitmap image is done being processed the memory it consumes is never released. The application keeps allocating memory which is where looking at the VirtualAlloc commit life times chart comes in.
