What is a site visit?
- If you ask users directly what they want your new product to do, they won't be able to tell you what an ideal interface would look like. They're so caught up in their own situation, and so worn down by the horrible interfaces they work with every day, that they can't answer objectively. The answers they give you will be incomplete, and might not touch on the root cause of the problem. The solution is to go and watch them. Yes, it's that simple. Site visits give you a much more realistic indication of how the work gets done, and the issues that people face. Knowing these pain points, means you can develop a solution that really resonates with users, because it meets all their needs, not just what you saw in an artificial lab environment, or heard about in an interview. You'll need to arrange at least three visits for each target user type you have, and you should perform at least five visits in total. This way, you'll…
