- The next phase of a job interview goes from the general to the specific. You might go through a number of additional interviews before you speak with the final decision maker. Some job postings are pretty generic in nature, especially in large companies. In that case, there are panels of hiring managers that look through the applicants who have made it this far and choose some for a next step job interview. If you're called for an onsite meeting, it can take about a half to a full day. You might meet with one or more people and have several 30-minute meetings with different managers or employees. You may also be asked to complete exercises or additional quizzes to prove your technical skills.
