Skill Level Beginner
- Hello, I'm Chris Nodder. Welcome to this episode of Evil By Design, a series on persuasive design and dark patterns. This time we're discussing creating credibility. In this course, we'll focus on a set of persuasive design patterns that rely on the credibility of the persuader to change people's behaviors. It's curious how much of our behavior is governed by what we see other people doing, and how we respond to people in positions of authority. The persuasive techniques we'll cover in this chapter rely on concepts such as social proof, the idea that if other people are doing something it must be good. And credibility, the trust we put in people who claim to know what's going on. If you're a software developer, this series will help you design better persuasive interfaces. If you're a consumer, this is a way of learning how persuasive techniques work so that you can be aware when they're being used on you. I'm sure you'll find some interesting ideas in this course, so let's get started.
