Collecting EU value-added tax (VAT)

- [Instructor] We're used to only paying taxes for the government we elect, but we live in a rapidly changing world, and even people who are in the U.S. need to occasionally pay attention to the tax laws in the European Union. The E.U. is changing how they're collecting taxes for digital goods, and by digital goods, I mean goods like PDFs, music files, and online courses. They're now forcing you to charge their VAT, or value added tax, similar to a sales tax in the U.S., to digital goods distributed to an E.U. country, and you have to pay that country's specific VAT rate. While they now make you pay VAT to a bunch of countries, they also added a tool for businesses to use to pay those taxes. They introduced the Mini One-Stop Shop, or MOSS, so you only need to pay one entity which will distribute your funds to the different E.U. countries.
