- Successful UX people don't work in a vacuum. They partner constantly with colleagues from other disciplines. You might be sitting down with a product manager to define user metrics for the next release one day then working side by side with a developer who's run into an issue with implementing the visual design another day. UX people are often the go-betweens on a project. Because we work with everybody, we can become a kind of translator between the different languages that product managers, project managers, developers, testers and operations all speak. Our common language is the voice of the user. It's not always easy to get people to listen. But Brian Woods' course on Managing Clients as a UX Freelancer and my course on Making the Case for Usability Testing can both help here. We also need to be able to speak each of the other languages.
