- In the previous video, we talked about what types of payment you want to accept. In this video, we're going to talk about a few other considerations when it comes to accepting money online. For any credit card payment, you're going to need HTTPS. Hosted solutions, like Shopify, have you covered. You don't have to do a thing, which is phenomenal. With a self-hosted solution, you'll have to get an SSL certificate. SSL certificates used to be a huge pain to get and they used to be expensive. Now, most stores don't have to pay for an SSL certificate. You can get a free one from Let's Encrypt and good hosts will have a button to install it for you. For an online event I ran a few months ago, it took, maybe, 10 minutes to get that set up on WP Engine. Because payments are so nebulous, some clients will ask you about storing credit card numbers- is it dangerous to do so, is it legal?
