- [Instructor] At its simplest, troubleshooting is the process of taking step by step actions that lead to the resolution of a problem and the very first step, and maybe the most important step, is gathering context. Imagine that you work at the customer service desk of an electronics store. A customer walks in and sets a box down in front of you, and says, this doesn't work. Well, what does that question even mean? Does it not turn on, does a light not blink, does it not make your coffee? What exactly doesn't work? Most of the time when someone says this doesn't work, they simply mean this doesn't do what I was expecting it to do. Let's take an example. If your mom calls you and tells you her printer doesn't work, how would you help her? Well, assuming you don't roll your eyes and hang up on her, you'd probably start by asking her for some details like what were you trying to print and were you trying to print from your computer or Dad's tablet?
