- Now that we're in the definition phase, it's time to start writing things down and communicate what we're going to do. One of the things I recommend for every project, is to create a site map. At a minimum, a site map will show you exactly what pages will be included on that site. And will show you the hierarchy as well. This is a document you can print off and show your client. The whole point of this document is to make sure you're not forgetting anything. Every single page should be included on this site map. And you can get your client to sign off on it. Now, a basic site map will show pages and hierarchy, but you can take it a step further, and I usually do. You can include specific features within certain pages. Like if a client asks for a newsletter signup to be on the home page, go ahead and list that under the appropriate page, it'll keep you, your client, and your team on the same page.
