- I want to talk about a really important concept in web programming, accessibility. Accessibility is one of the core concepts of the web, yet in the 30-some years since the first web page was published, web accessibility has largely taken a back seat to more attractive issues, like how to make things look pretty, or how to add fancy interactions. All that is finally changing thanks to the tireless work of the web accessibility community. And it is our job to make sure everything on the web, published from here on forwards, is accessible to everyone. At the core of web accessibility is a simple principle. Content should be accessible regardless of what tool the visitor uses to access it. They should be able to get the same content, whether they use a standard visual browser or a text to speech browser. They should be able to interact with links and buttons, and other elements, whether they use a finger or a mouse, or a keyboard, or any other input device. This is important, not just…
