- Let's be clear, in many organizations there won't be the luxury of a full time information architect position. The person who does information architecture work will also have other responsibilities. In my experience, those other responsibilities are often in the related fields of interaction design, user research, or content creation. That's often because people fall into doing information architecture work and learn the related skills as their job responsibilities grow and as they find there's nobody else in the organization performing that role. For instance, I did my first information architecture work as part of a user research role. There was no way the company would have hired an information architect even if they'd known such a role existed, and even if they could have found someone with the correct specialist skillset.
