Join Walt Ritscher for an in-depth discussion in this video Use third-party project templates: Visual Studio 2017, part of Visual Studio Essential Training: 07 Understanding Project Types.
- [Narrator] There are some changes in the way that…Visual Studio 2017 handles third party templates.…So let's take a look at those in the new project dialogue.…The first thing I want to look at…is here in the install template,…you'll see it says installed and this is where…we see the normal templates that come with Visual Studio,…but there's also a hyperlink here that says…open Visual Studio installer.…And that'll open the installer application…so you can install or remove packages.…So the idea here is that you've decided…you want to do some DirectX development…and you didn't install the DirectX components,…which means you won't have the DirectX templates…on your developer computer, you can click on…this hyperlink that'll launch the installer,…you can add the new features,…and then when you restart Visual Studio,…appropriate templates will be there.…
The other thing that I want to look at…is what's changed in the online sections.…Open this up here.…In 2015, there's a section for templates…and there's a section for samples.…
