- [Instructor] The value of having data in a diagram increases dramatically when you display one or more data fields on or near a shape. Inserting display fields onto a shape is a long-time Visio technique for displaying text and numbers, but Visio data graphics provide a wider range of options, some of which use icons and color to present data values. In this video, we'll start with examples of text graphics, and we'll begin by visualizing the status of each step in a business process. Here's a sample Visio Swimlane diagram. If I select a shape and look in the shape data window, click on the status field, you'll notice there's a drop-down list that contains possible status values for each step within the process. Let's close the shape data window, and let's create a data graphic. Click Advanced Data Graphics. And by the way, in Visio 2013 and Visio 2010 this button is labeled simply Data Graphics, and it is located on the left end of the tab. Click it, Create New Data Graphic, choose…
