Link a Process Diagram to data in Excel
- [Instructor] Visio data linking is very flexible and allows you to connect a diagram to data that lives almost anywhere. One of the most readily available sources of data for many people is Excel and that's the source we'll use in the videos in this chapter. Let's start by looking at data in Excel that applies to a human resources recruiting process. You see a variety of fields here about each step in the process including in column A, a unique number that identifies each step within the process and in column G you see a status that applies to each step in the process. Let's close this file and go to Visio. Each step in the process includes a number. There are other data fields. They don't currently contain data. As I select a couple of steps in the process you'll see that there is a Process Number and nothing else. We're gonna use that Process Number in just a moment to connect our shapes to data, and as you'll see data linking is actually a two-step operation. First, we need to…
