Change attributes before linking to data
- [Narrator] When Visio imports data into a diagram, it tries to match the name of each data field in the external data source with a shape data field name. Each time it finds a match, Visio moves data into the corresponding field. On the other hand, if Visio finds a field in the data source that does not exist in a shape, it creates a new shape data field. In addition, when Visio examines your external data, it makes its best guess about what type of data each field contains. Inevitably, you'll run into circumstances where you'll want to change a field name or change the type for imported data, and, in this video, you'll learn to do both. The diagram on the screen contains photos of three objects in a hypothetical museum collection. The selected coin shape in center of the diagram shows that there are shape data fields, but none of them contain data.
