What you should know

- [Instructor] In this course, I'll be using a Windows 10 PC, but you should be able to follow along with a Mac or a Linux machine as well. I expect that you know how to download and install software on your computer, because we'll be getting software and operating system installers from the internet. These installers can be large and can take awhile to download. And installing operating systems can take awhile as well. So be sure to set aside some time to follow along with the course. It'd be an hour or more than the length of these videos. You'll need to be an administrator on your system in order to install the VirtualBox software, or you'll need to have an administrator install it for you. And it will help to have a general understanding of the different parts of a computer, the CPU, the RAM, the storage, and so on. I'll demonstrate how to install Windows 10 and Ubuntu Linux in VirtualBox. And as you watch both of those chapters, you'll notice that there's some repeated information. That's because the process for each is similar, but I want to spend the time going through the process for each operating system. After that, when I discuss the features of VirtualBox in more detail, I'll be using the Linux virtual machine. But you'll be able to follow along using a Windows virtual machine, if that's what you choose to install. If you're not familiar with using the Linux Command Line, take a look at my course here on LinkedIn Learning called Learning Linux Command Line. If at any point you come across an error message or something that doesn't match up with what I'm showing, be sure to take a look at the troubleshooting video. I cover some common problems and stumbling blocks there to help you resolve problems.
