Advanced disk usage
- [Instructor] We've seen how to add new virtual disc images to a VM and now that we've also seen how to use the VirtualBox command line tools, I'd like to show you a few more ways of working with discs. First, let's take a look at how to expand the disc that a VM is already using. We don't have a way to do that in the GUI, so we need to use VirtualBox's command line tools to do it. Though, once we expand the disc, you'll still need to take steps in the guest operating system to expand the file systems to be able to use that space. Not all file systems can be easily extended. If you're using LVM, logical volume management on Linux, you can expand the volume pretty easily. With a regular partition, you'll need to use a tool like Parted or GParted to handle resizing the volume. And then you'll need to use other tools to extend the file system on the enlarged partition.
