What are the roles on a video crew?

- Let's delve further into the roles on a crew so you know who is on your team and what it is that they do. So one of the most important roles is the Cinematographer, also known as the Director of Photography, or sometimes DOP or DP. And in that same department, there might be an AC, Assistant Camera operator. That's a person who can swap out the different lenses and make all those things happen very quickly while the Cinematographer is mapping out the shot with a producer and doing other things. There's a Sound Recordist who might also be mixing on set. You've probably seen large mixers and we'll show you what some of those look like. That person could also be a Boom Operator, so in a kind of smaller team, they might be operating all of those pieces of equipment. On a larger team, there might be a separate Boom Operator from the person who's recording and mixing. There's a Lighting Director, which we sometimes refer to as a Gaffer.
