- Hi, I'm Ashley Kennedy. Thank you for joining me in this course, Making Video: Teach Something. This is one of a series of four Making Video courses, where we talk about how to create different types of videos for different purposes and different audiences. The common thread of all of these courses is that we're making these videos on a very low budget, using a smartphone as the primary camera and a limited amount of other production equipment. We're also assuming relatively little or no experience in video production whatsoever. So, if you're someone not in the video industry, who wants to make a high-quality video at very little cost, this course is for you. Now, in this course, we'll be making a video to teach something, specifically, a cooking video. We're teaming up with Santa Barbara-based chef, Pamela Ellgen, helping her make a high-quality video to teach how to make a tasty dish that she calls Farmer's Market Hash. Pamela is not a professional camera person or video editor, but by the end of our time together, she was able to distill clear teaching tips into an easy-to-follow, engaging, and well-shot video that she can use to promote her new business. My goal is for you to go on this journey with Pamela, and learn to make your own video on how to teach someone a skill. During this course, Pamela and I discussed important details about her desired technique and style, so that the video would embody the best of her brand. I taught her how to plan her video by structuring and scripting it from start to finish. Together, we scouted locations and set the space up for a multi-location, multi-camera shoot. We used two smartphones and some powerful mobile filmmaking gear to capture our footage with optimal video and audio quality. And finally, I took her through the post-production process, where we organized footage, edited the video, and performed color correction, titling, and audio work.
