Weather reports: TAFs

- TAF stands for terminal aerodrome forecast, and this is like a METAR, but instead of being about current conditions, they are a forecast, usually 24 hours from the time that the TAF was created. TAFs use the same weather code found in METAR weather reports. This is what a typical TAF looks like. You start seeing familiar things like the wind speed and the ceiling. In reality, this is very much like the METAR, except it is a prediction, and therefore, there is a time component to this report. Let's break it down. First we see the type of report, which is of course a TAF. Then the station identifier. This is Will Rogers World Airport. This is Oklahoma City. Then the date and time of origin. The 5th day of the month at 1130 Zulu. Then comes a valid period of time, which is from the 5th day of the month at 1200 Zulu until the 6th day of the month at 1800 Zulu. Now we see the wind.
