- Here's a simple idea.…If you want to manage something,…you need to actually understand it first.…Now you might think you know your business,…but chances are you might not.…You'll realize that there are larger components…that you rely upon other people for.…Maybe you don't understand the editing process,…or the active actually capturing the photos.…And getting them properly developed…or ready for the customer.…Or maybe it's the printing process,…and you submit prints to an online vendor,…and then get them back.…Maybe you don't edit video,…but you're in a full-service video production company.…
Now what this doesn't mean…is that you have to become a jack-of-all-trades…and master of none.…But it does mean you need to take the time…to understand the services that you sell.…Getting to know the people within your company…and really getting to understand…what's involved with that job.…What are the constraints that those services…are offered under?…The first thing you should do…is take a look at your overall capabilities.…
