In this case, our subject was available, so we've asked her to step in for a moment. So the director of photography can meet, and we can look at things like hair color, skin tone. All of those things will affect our decisions as we start to light. What's also great is we can see things like her height, so we can accurately frame the shot. And make some good judgments. If you don't get a chance to actually bring the person on in, make sure you go and meet and talk. You're going to want to see, are they bald? Do they wear glasses? There's lots of factors that will affect how you light the shot. But the best thing in the world is to ask them to just step in for a second so you can check the frame and see what they look like.
