- Comedy can backfire. If misused, humor can actually obscure your message rather than support and enhance it. Ever go to a really funny movie and miss a joke because the audience drowned it out with their laughter from the previous joke? (crowd laughing) Like that. In that movie, funny is the point. But never forget that, in your video, the message is the point and comedy is the rest of the pencil. Take Super Bowl commercials. Everyone watches them and many of them are extremely entertaining. They should be, they cost enough. Remember that one about the kid in the Darth Vader outfit? What about the spot in which Morgan Freeman raps? What exactly were they advertising? What product, what model, which flavor? If you remember, you're probably in the minority. These commercials have become so competitive, they shoot for media coverage more than a transfer of information. Many of these ads have become zillion dollar backfires.
