Securing written permission and location releases

- You've decided that a location is the perfect place for your production. Now it's time to get it in writing. You need to make sure you get the right form. Work with a lawyer. Don't try to write this all yourself. For me, I have a blanket location release that I use that was written for me by a lawyer. Ensure that you have written permission, 'cause you want to keep that written permission on you at all times while you're shooting. Always get hard copies. A live signature. Also, if I'm going to cast from a location I'll usually try to get an appearance release ahead of time. It makes them commit to being on camera at the same time. Another thing I try to do is I try to find any other things that I need to ask or get rights to. Maybe there's artwork in the scenes that we're planning on using.
