If you talk to any project manager, you will often hear them refer to scope. The scope is essentially the work that needs to be performed, and in any project this often evolves over time. In this movie, author Richard Harrington describes what scope is and gives a brief overview of why it is necessary when managing a project.
- If you talk to any project manager,…you'll often hear them refer to scope.…Scope is simply the process…of actually defining what has to be done…and then living up to the scope.…The scope is essentially the work…that needs to be performed.…And in a project, this is often evolving over time.…Now, the actual act of scoping a project…has a few key tasks.…And I want to suggest those to you now.…First off, you need to budget about two to 16 hours,…depending upon the size of the project,…to figure things out.…
This will vary depending upon the complexity of the project.…A simple project could probably be done in about two hours.…If it involves multiple days of shooting in locations…and lots of details,…well it might take a couple of days…to figure out all of the key details.…But you're going to want to get those down…into a functional plan.…The document you're going to create is going to generally be…between about two to 10 pages long.…You'll note that I said a document.…If you don't actually write the scope out,…it doesn't exist.…
