Scoping the project
- You're about to get the project underway. One of the first things you have to do is scope the project. This is where you're spec'ing it out, getting all the key details written down. Now, this will vary from project to project, but I find it typically takes between two and 16 hours to accurately do this. If it's a really complex project with lots of deliverable pieces and multiple locations, it may go longer, but your typical website, graphic design project, video project, tends to take one to two days to accurately create a plan. The outcome of this is going to be a written document and it could be as short as two pages and might spill out to 10 pages long. This scoping document becomes the charter, the written plan that everyone agrees to, that has a sign off. You need to get all of the key players to either attend or to be standing by ready to look things over. Ideally, you'll scope out the project in a quite room…
