- [Luisa] A runway is obviously where airplanes take off and land. They are rectangular and straight. Runways are named by a number, which is in between O-one and three-six, and these numbers indicate the magnetic heading of the runway in degrees rounded to the closest 10th. So, if a runway is heading to 318 degrees magnetic, the closest number would be 320, which would make the runway number three-two, which is pronounced three-two, not 32. Keep in mind that if we have a runway that is two-two, one could also land the other way. So, on the other side, we could have the reciprocal runway, which would be 180 degrees from this one. So, the reciprocal of three-two would be zero-four pronounced zero-four or O-four. If you have parallel runways, they will be differentiated with left and right.
