Look up tables, or LUTs, are a popular method of handling LOG or flat footage. When used like this, a LUT normalizes the image quickly. Additionally, LUTs can be used for creative effects. Jeff shows both how to apply a LUT and add third-party downloaded LUTs.
- [Narrator] LUTs or Look Up Tables…have become the hot thing…the last five or so years.…They're essentially fast translations.…They're usually used to normalize footage…that's shot lock or flat…and they can also be used creatively.…Here's how to use it both ways.…Back over in my project, on the edit page,…I can right click on any clip…and I can choose to add a LUT to that clip.…For example, here are ones that restore…or normalize Blackmagic cameras from various formats…to video.…
So your brain sees them the way your brain wants…to see them, in 709 space.…If you want to add to the list here,…you go to the project settings,…you go to color management,…you scroll down to the Lookup Tables…and you'll see a choice to open the LUT folder.…You add your cube LUTs to the LUT folder…and then you update the list…and then you have access to your LUTs.…Creatively you want to use them on the color page…at the end of whatever nodes you're already using.…
So, here I'm going to hit a alt + s…or opt + s to add a serial node.…And I'm going to right click here…
