Project management bottom line

- Now that you understand where project management may fit within your workflow, let's start to master some of its core concepts. The bottom line is this. Project management is a collection of business practices that work, but it is multiple different techniques that you have to combine in order to succeed. It's not a fad, and it's not new. You learned earlier that the Project Management Institute has been around since 1969, but because project management works so well, and we continue to see the pace of innovation increasing with more and more globalized teams, project management is getting a lot more attention. As project deadlines get shorter and shorter, budgets get smaller, and the workforces continue to shrink as well as get more spread apart, project management becomes an absolute must. Gone are the days where you had everybody on staff, in the same building. Now, you're working with shared resources across multiple offices, potentially. Or building your own project teams with a collection of people that may be in your backyard or on the complete opposite side of the world. By employing an organized, tactical approach, you really can thrive in this changing industry. Sure, the world of film and video, photography, and design continue to change quickly, but good business practices are good business practices. And so even though the software and tools may change, the way in which you succeed does not. It comes down to project management. You can never be too busy to manage a project. If you're too busy to employ these techniques, you are just accepting the fact that you're going to be less profitable and more likely to fail.
