Preparing SD and CFAST cards with a computer

- If you need to, you can prepare cards with a computer. The process is pretty straightforward. Just make sure you connect the card with the appropriate card reader. For example, I have a SD card reader here and while it appears that it has a CF slot, that's for the older CompactFlash card, not the CFast Card. So it's important that you pay attention to what each reader can do. On the other hand, if necessary, I do have a CFast Card Reader here and this would be just fine to use for the CFast Cards, so make sure you put the appropriate card into the appropriate reader. Once you've done that, just connect it to your computer, whether it's a desktop or a laptop. Now, locate the card and see if there's any content on there. If I press command + I, or right click and choose Get Info, I could see details about the card format. Earlier we discussed the difference between ExFAT and OS X Journaled.
